Welcome to Lympsham Pre-School

Lympsham Pre-School provides the first stage of education at Lympsham C o E Academy and in your child's journey through the Wessex Learning Trust's family of schools.

Our aim is to make our smallest children feel nurtured, valued and stimulated in a warm and friendly environment which has learning through play at it's heart.

We include a variety of activities every day which are planned and led by our Early Years Teacher, Mrs Gratton. Some of our favourites are storytime, arts and crafts, music and movement, singing, outdoor play, messy play, cookery and construction. We believe children learn best through play and exploration and we plan a wide range of stimulating and exciting activities to engage, support and challenge our very young children. All our activities are delivered in a way that takes into consideration each child's interests, preferred learning style, age and stage of development. We plan a range of teacher-led activities throughout the week and use our observations of the children to inform the next steps in their learning.

We have a qualified PE coach, Mr Scrivens who joins us every Thursday morning. During our sessions with him we carry out a range of activities which develop children's basic PE skills and encourage co-operation and teamwork. Older children get changed for PE during the summer term which encourages them to learn how to dress and undress independently in preparation for starting school. We have achieved SASP (Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership) accreditation as an 'Active' early years setting with physical activity embedded into all aspect of our curriculum.

Our learning environment includes well resourced indoor and outdoor spaces and we also strive to go out and about in the local community, enjoying walks to Manor Gardens, the village park and the cricket green. We also enjoy strong community links with the Post Office and the Cafe at the Pavilion. We have sung songs and taken craft activities to the cafe and children enjoy shopping trips to the local Post Office.

We value our relationships with parents and have regular 'stay and play' coffee mornings where parents can chat and get to know each other. We are lucky enough to have parents that come in and cook with the children, as well as parents that come in to help with our topic work. For example we have recently had visits from a vet, a dentist and a farmer. These links are very important to us and place our pre-school at the heart of the community.

We foster strong links with the Reception class at Lympsham School and benefit from regular visits from the class teacher Miss Evans. In the term before the children start school they also visit the reception class regularly so children are familiar with the school before they start in the September.
